ROVE: EXPLORING THE BEST OF LOCAL DESIGN | HOSLEY | MODERN HOME DECOR & FURNITURE STORE

September 24, 2014 - We hosted a special edition of ROVE as part of WESTERN LIVING DESIGN WEEK to celebrate local design talent. It was a lovely prelude to the Interior Design Show West, which was set to launch the following night. Despite the day's spotty weather, this pop-up party brought about a hip and stylish crowd. Of course, with fashionable accessories in the mix a few rain drops won't keep the fashionistas and coolhunters away. So once again, with the amazing support of Western Living Magazine and Occupy Design, here is a recap of the party at 18Karat's flagship store.

Two of our guests of honor, Brent and Robin, founders of Gamla Studio, enjoy a chat with Anicka Quin, Editor-in-Chief of Western Living Magazine. This particular zone at the back of the store was constantly buzzing and crowded. We also spot 18Karat's Design Director, Zoe Garred in the background.

The vibrant collection of ceramics by Dahlhaus Art caught our eye and made us smile. Created by Heather Braun-Dahl, these pieces feature geometric motifs in a variety of sweet colours. Great gifts for all occasions!

With timeless designs that are modern yet flexible enough to work in both contemporary and traditional spaces, it's no wonder that Gamla Studio consistently drew a cluster of guests. Check out their S2 Dining Chair to see for yourself. Also on display were some high quality furnishings for the dog in your home, the For Gimli Traveller Den and For Gimli Dog Feeder.

We also featured the impressive work of industrial designer Alex Henderson, whose Henderson Dry Goods offerings include detailed and elegant wooden jewellery among home decor pieces such as clocks, mobiles and dioramas. Guests couldn't just take a quick glance. The intricate designs drew them in for closer inspection. There were plenty of pieces to covet. A truly inspiring line of design work.

Hailey Gerrits Designs' display showcased her new fall collection. No doubt a glamourous and exciting sight for guests walking towards this party zone. Just look at it....need we say more?

Some of the most talked-about design pieces of the night was Hinterland's Scatter/Gather pendant light (right), which hung in one of the store's front window, and the NurseLog (left corner), which mimics rain forest stumps that grow moss and ferns at their tops. It was a sad event to see them taken away to go to the IDS west show (*sniff*). Also in this scene (left image) are Katja Zubkova's beautiful paintings. They are available for sale in the store. And what's a party without some snappy bites provided by Bestie? Their appetizers paired perfectly with our beers. Simply delicious. Visit them for lunch, dinner or a late night snack in Vancouver's Chinatown at 105 East Pender. (Bottom-right) We also celebrated Western Living Magazine's Designers of the Year issue.
